Custom Cabinetry For Your Mudroom

Four Ideas for Mudroom Cabinetry

What components do builders and dealers specify most for entryway and mudroom projects? With an in-house design and millwork team, storage can be configured to the traffic-flow and program requirements of the space, a level of fit no stock bench-and-shelf unit can match.

These are the foyer storage solutions that give you the most bang for your buck, and each one can be combined with storage cabinetry or laundry room cabinets when the two rooms share a wall.

The Benefits Of Custom Cabinetry

Six Reasons Entry Built-Ins Pay Off

The entry is the hardest-working few feet of any building. Cabinetry manufactured to AWI-standard construction keeps it organized, durable and consistent across every unit on an order.

  • Built-Ins Scribed to Look Original to the Structure

Scribed to the walls, matched to existing trim and topped with crown molding on request, not a bench-and-shelf unit dropped in place.

  • Closed-Storage Components for Daily Traffic

Cubbies, hooks and drawer banks are specified to catch shoes, bags and coats at the door, keeping clutter out of adjoining rooms on the plan.

  • Configured to Occupant and Traffic Requirements

Hook heights, cubby depths and drawer placement are specified to the project, multifamily, hospitality or single-family, rather than a single fixed layout.

  • Pet-Station Components Available

Recessed bowl openings, treat and leash drawers and wipeable surfaces at floor level can be added to a bench spec for projects that call for them.

  • Material, Finish and Hardware Specified to Order

Wood species, paint color, door style and hardware are selected per spec and finish-matched across every unit in the order.

  • One Accountable Shop

Design, millwork, finishing and installation support are all in-house at our Las Vegas facility, from first measurement to crew-ready delivery.

Inside The Build

Four Entry Configurations, Built to Spec

Custom mud bench with recessed shiplap backer, brass hooks and under-seat cubbies with baskets
01

Recessed-Backer Bench with Under-Seat Cubbies

A recessed backer provides seating without adding floor depth, while under-seat cubbies hold shoes and gear. Hooks, shelves and crown molding are configured per spec and manufactured to a set of shop drawings rather than pulled off a stock shelf.

Locker style mudroom built-in with vertical cubbies, coat hooks and drawers under the bench
02

Locker-Style Bench with Drawers and Open Cubbies

Open cubbies are specified for high-traffic, multifamily or family-occupancy units, bulky items load fast without a door to manage. Long vertical cubbies handle jackets and gear, and drawers below the bench close out smaller storage.

L-shaped entryway bench with shaker doors, pet bowl nook and shoe cubbies in navy cabinetry
03

L-Shaped Bench with Pet Nook and Shaker Doors

An L-shaped bench adds seating capacity for wider entries. Pet bowl and treat storage can be built alongside shoe and gear cubbies, finished with shaker doors matched to the rest of the unit run.

04

Integrated Mud Bench for Kitchen or Back-Hallway Layouts

Not every floor plan includes a dedicated mudroom. An integrated bench using shiplap, floating shelves and crown molding can be specified into a kitchen or back-hallway layout so the drop zone reads as part of the cabinetry package.

Materials & Finishes

Built for Wet Shoes & Daily Traffic

Entries take more wear than any other point of a building. We specify materials and finishes rated for that traffic and finish-match them to existing trim and flooring across the order.

  1. 01

    Natural Hardwood

Oak, maple and walnut face frames, doors and bench tops, stainable to match your floors and repairable for decades.

    Highest quality
  2. 02

    Moisture-Resistant Plywood

Stable boxes that shrug off wet shoes and damp coats, with a durable catalyzed finish over the top.

    Best for wear
  3. 03

    Painted MDF & Panel

Perfectly flat and takes paint beautifully, the right choice for crisp shaker lockers and shiplap backers.

    Best for paint
  4. 04

    Laminate & Hardworking Tops

Wipe-clean bench surfaces and shelving in a wide range of tones for busy family entries.

How It Works

Four Steps to a Finished Entry

One accountable shop from the first measurement to crew-ready delivery on the jobsite.

  1. Step 01

    Identify Project Requirements

We walk the entry, account for occupancy, storage volume and traffic patterns, and map the path from the door so the layout performs at peak use.

    Week 1

  2. Step 02

    Layout & Renderings

CAD drawings show hook heights, cubby sizes, drawer placement and door styles so you approve the design before a board is cut.

    Week 1–2

  3. Step 03

    Milled in Our Shop

Your built-ins are cut, assembled and hand-finished on Cameron Street using the millwork techniques we've refined since 1988.

    Weeks 2–4

  4. Step 04

    Install & Load In

Our installers scribe to the walls, set benches, doors, drawers and hooks, then walk the finished entry with you.

  • A mudroom is the hardworking version, usually off the garage or back door, built to take wet shoes, backpacks, sports gear and pet supplies, with open cubbies, hooks and durable finishes. An entryway or foyer built-in is the version guests see, so it leans more decorative: closed doors, drawers, a bench seat, sometimes a mirror or display shelf. We build both, and often blend them when one door does both jobs.
