Face Frame Cabinets
These cabinets incorporate a solid wood frame that is attached to the front edges of the cabinet cases. Hinges mount to this face frame and there is usually a wide gap between cabinet doors and drawer fronts which makes the face frame a visible part of the cabinet bank. The amount of overlay will vary depending on hinge & plate pairing used.
Face Frame Full Overlay Hinge & Plate Pairings
Full Overlay Information
Using a full overlay hinge and plate pairing on a face frame cabinet will cover up to 3/4″ of the face frame, and give the cabinets a more streamlined “Euro” box look. Using full overlay hinges on a face frame cabinet will typically yield a 1/4″ ~ 3/8″ gap between cabinet doors.

Face Frame Half Overlay Hinge & Plate Pairings
Half Overlay Information
Using a half overlay hinge and plate pairing on a face frame cabinet will cover up to 1/4″ of the face frame. This is a more traditional setup and will typically yield a 1-3/4″ ~ 2″ gap between cabinet doors depending on the face frame stile width used.
